Symbols used in these Pages

These pages use various mathematical symbols. This page, created largely for my own convenience, shows how you can present these (and some other mathematical) symbols in HTML.

The html with a background this yellow colour depends on styles. To get these to work you can copy this page's stylesheet. Note that it has a bodge to make it work with both FireFox and Internet Explorer.

Lines with a background this colour this pink colour used to work with modern browsers until FireFox version 3 was released. This recent release of FireFox fails (on my Windows system) to display certain unicode characters that older versions displayed correctly. You may be able to fix this (as I have in this page) by setting   style="font-family: 'Lucida Sans Unicode';"   either for the whole page, or for those particular characters.
